Είμαι άρρωστος, οπότε ας κάνουμε λίγο λαπά.
Χθες είδα (κακώς, όπως φαίνεται, γιατί μετά ανέβηκε ο πυρετός) το Brick, μια πολύ ενδιαφέρουσα independent movie του 2005, που παίζει ακόμα στα σινεμά (στην Αμερική). Η ταινία τώρα είναι τρομερά πρωτότυπη, αν και τα 1930s θα φαινόταν τρομερά κλισέ. Μου θύμησε πάρα πολύ το Romeo + Juliet του Buz Luhrmann.* Υπό την έννοια του ότι είναι μια ταινία που πέρνει κάτι με ένα πολύ συγκεκριμένο στυλάκι, και το χώνει σε κάτι που φαινομενικά δεν του ταιριάζει καθόλου, μα το κάνει τέλεια! Στο έργο του Luhrmann έχουμε άψογο Σακεσπύρο στη μοντέρνα εποχή, στο δε Brick έχουμε pulp noir detective story από τα 1930s σε σημερινό, Καλιφορνέζικο λύκειο! LOL. Μιλάμε για detective story, noir, με τον κλασσικό χιλιοχτυπημένο, σκληρό, ανελέητο, απτόητο ντετέκτιβ, ο οποίος θέλει να εκδικηθεί την αδικοχαμένη του πρώην γκόμενα, και τα κάνει όλα για την εκδίκηση. Μπλέκεται μ’ επικίνδυνες γκόμενες, με σπείρες ναρκωτικών, με ανθρώπους της νύχτας. Αλλά είναι, όλοι και όλα, μέσα σ’ ένα λύκειο. Είναι δύο σκηνές ειδικά, που είναι όλα τα λεφτά. (Με το λυκειάρχη, και το μπισκότο. Θα το καταλάβετε.) Μόνο μια συμβουλή: δείτε το με υπότιτλους (Αγγλικούς). Δεν είναι μόνο το στυλ της ταινίας που είναι από τα 1930s, είναι και η ομιλία όλων, το οποίο κάνει την ταινία πολύ δύσκολη να κατανοηθεί μόνο από το soundtrack, και ειδικά αν τ’ Αγγλικά σας δεν είναι πολύ καλά, μάλλον ακατανόητη.
Πρόσφατα είδα και το The Proposition. Δε μου άρεσε. Για καλοκαιρινό χαβαλέ, μάλλον μια από αυτές τις μέρες θα πάω να δω και το Γαλλικό District B13. Έχει αρκετό parkour, οπότε η δράση πρέπει να είναι τουλάχιστον σχετικά πρωτότυπη. Το parkour ακούγεται αρκετά τελευταία — και το εντυπωσιακό βιντεοπαιχνίδι Assassin’s Creed υποτίθεται πως έχει στυλάκι parkour.
Μιλώντας για ταινίες, θέλω να δω και το An Inconvenient Truth με τον Al Gore. Όπως έχω αναφέρει και παλιότερα,
You owe it to yourself to see this film. If that sounds overdramatic, I understand. I could not have imagined writing that before seeing the film myself.
Και αφού έτσι φτάσαμε στο θέμα του global warming, ρίξτε μια ματιά στο debate περί ενός πρόσφατου άρθρου επί του θέματος. Έξυπνη και αποκαλυπτική τοποθέτηση, ή διαβολικά έξυπνα παραπλανητική τοποθέτηση; Το θέμα είναι σημαντικό, αλλά και δύσκολο προς επίλυση.
Και μια που φτάσαμε στο crooked timber, ρίξτε και μια ματιά και στην ιδέα του Murray. Ενδιαφέρουσα.
Γυρνάμε στα tech news. Θα γνωρίζετε βέβαια πως ο Conroe, a.k.a. Core 2 Duo της Intel, φαίνεται πως θα δείρει τον Athlon somewhat silly. Καιρός ήταν για λίγο leap σε επιδόσεις. Η Intel, βέβαια, δεν τα πηγαίνει και πολύ καλά τελευταία. Όχι ότι τα πάει άσχημα, μιλάμε για δισεκατομμύρια $ εισόδημα, αλλά πέφτει αρκετούτσικα.
Εν τω μεταξύ, η AMD ανταποδίδει τα πυρά με το 4×4, βασικά ένα dual slot configuration για τον Athlon FX. Δηλαδή δύο dual core επεξεργαστές, δηλαδή 4 cores. Αλλά για τον FX μόνο. Κοινώς ζήσε Μάη να φας τριφύλλι. Οι περισσότεροι από μας δε θα δούνε ποτέ καν Athlon FX, πόσο μάλλον δύο. Άσε που τι να τα κάνεις τα 4 cores αυτή τη στιγμή, δεν υπάρχει πρόγραμμα να τα χρησιμοποιήσει.
Πιο ενδιαφέρουσα είναι η δυνατότητα του να κάνει κανείς κάτι διαφορετικό με το δεύτερο slot μέσω του Hyper Transport. Το οποίο δεν είναι πολύ εντυπωσιακό, γιατί πιθανώς λίγοι third party developers να κάνουν κάτι τέτοιο. Αν όμως η AMD όντως αγοράσει την ATI… intriguing.
Εν τω μεταξύ, στη Sony εξακολουθούν να είναι εκνευριστικοί:

Κοινώς, δεν πιστεύουμε πως υπάρχει “next-generation”, πιστεύουμε πως υπάρχει το PS2 και μετά υπάρχει το PS3. Right. That’s like, so not arrogant. A, και ακούσατε ότι τελικά παίζει να μην προσπαθήσουν να ‘χουν software emulation για backwards comatibility; Τουλάχιστον όχι αρχικά, λένε να βάλουν το Emotion Engine και στο PS3. Ευτυχώς, γιατί φοβόμουν πως οι τιμές του PS3 θα πέσουν και θα μειωθεί η αξία του στα μάτια του κόσμου.
Τέλος (σχεδόν), η AMD ίσως είναι πιό κοντά σε μεγάλες αλλαγές απ’ ό,τι περίμενα. Για φορητούς τουλάχιστον.
Και μήπως θέλετε H-1 Visa; Ήδη τελειώσαν για το 2007…

Maybe you’ll marry, maybe you won’t, maybe you’ll have children, maybe you won’t, maybe you’ll divorce at 40, maybe you’ll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary…what ever you do, don’t congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either – your choices are half chance, so are everybody else’s. Enjoy your body, use it every way you can…don’t be afraid of it, or what other people think of it, it’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever own.
Dance…even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.
Read the directions, even if you don’t follow them.
Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.
Get to know your parents, you never know when they’ll be gone for good.
Be nice to your siblings; they are the best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.
Understand that friends come and go,but for the precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography in lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young.
Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard; live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.
Travel.
Accept certain inalienable truths, prices will rise, politicians will philander, you too will get old, and when you do you’ll fantasize that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders.
Respect your elders.
Don’t expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one might run out.
Don’t mess too much with your hair, or by the time you’re 40, it will look 85.
Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.
But trust me on the sunscreen…

Ναι I know, το κάνει σαφές το άρθρο του CT, καθώς και τα πως και γιατί μάλλον δεν αναφέρει τους προηγούμενους.
Είδα με τον cosmix το Brick. Τι τραγικό που είναι κάτι μήνες μετά από εσένα… Και δεν θυμόμουν καν ότι έιχες γράψει.
Μου άρεσε πολύ. Πράγματι είναι ένα λίγο διαφορετικό film noir. Αισθητικώς μοιάζει με Donnie Darko, το σχολείο, τα άτομα. Το σενάριο πολύ ενδιαφέρον με ωραία twists και τρομερούς χαρακτήρες. Ήταν πολύ ενδιαφέρον ότι ουσιαστικά ο ήρωας δεν την πατάει με την femme fatale και της λέει στα μούτρα something equivalent to “I know you are the femme fatale, so buzz off”. Ο πιο απίστευτος χαρακτήρας πάντως ήταν η Καρα. Bitch και Slut, 2 σε ένα Vidal Sasoon. Καταπληκτικός συνδυασμός και με πολύ τέχνη δοσμένος στο κοινό. Η μουσική πολύ καλή συμφωνώ. Ταιριάζει γάντι στο στυλ της ταινίας.
